#3 Invader Zim Gir Hat

Number 3 on the countdown is Mei Lynne Travis's Invader Zim Gir Hat!

This is such a cute (and ingenious) pattern. It's modeled after Gir from Invader Zim! Who doesn't need a little more Gir in their life?

I made this for a coworker's husband who loves Invader zim and has a hat collection. I'm not even sure he wears the hats in his collection, but now he has a Gir hat!

I love that the bottom edge of the beanie is doubled over. It makes the edge really clean and professional looking, and actually does a lot for comfort as well. It also cuts down on any rolling you would normally get with a stockinette stitch hat. The eyes, ears and tongue are done on dpns, but the body of the hat was mostly circs, so it made for a really quick, fun pattern.

Here's a picture of my incarnation of the pattern:

I used red heart super saver to make things a little cheaper for me, but I was surprised at how nice this came out even with cheap yarn!
